We can all agree that Getting, ROCKS, Right!?! Well yeah of course it does, but Giving is SOOOOO much better, let me tell you why.
When I talk about giving, I’m not talking about giving a pair of socks, a coffee maker, the latest phone or gadget, and the just because I have to, gifts. I mean giving of yourself, from the heart, see a need and fulfill it. Could be a bag of groceries, or helping someone lug boxes into the Post Office, paying for a strangers meal, or saving up your own money to give blankets and presents to homeless people at Christmas, like one little boy in my area did this week. He gave from his heart, he put together bags of needful things, food items, blankets etc. and wrapped them all up so people in need would have something to open for Christmas this year. THAT is the Giving that really ROCKS!!!!
When we receive a tangible gift, we may love it and cherish it always, we may hate it, or we may fall somewhere in between. Most of the things we get, love em or not, we will use them or play with them for a while, in a few years those gifts will either be out dated, lost, broken, and will likely end up in a Garage Sale pile, a donation pile or the trash. While we loved it for a short while, it won’t last forever, we more than likely won’t even remember it down the road.
Giving from the heart on the other hand will last our entire lives. The memories of the excitement and joy we saw on someone’s face, the smile that spread wide and made their eyes twinkle with delight, the tears we helped wipe away when they were so moved by our gesture of love and kindness, it touched their heart.
The feeling that stayed with us the rest of that day and possibly longer from that experience, THOSE are the gifts that we will carry with us always and forever. They will never end up in a Garage Sale, they can never be broken or lost, they will always and forever be forged within us a part of us, something we, AND the receiver, will cherish always.
So yeah, getting is great, but Giving is where it’s at. It’s the good stuff, the long term stuff, the stuff we all need, the stuff that can change us all, and it lasts FOREVER!
